This family’s original residence, located on a well-renowned lake in the upper-Midwest, had been the backdrop to numerous gatherings for many years. The family members had, however, finally outgrown the space, and challenged us with utilizing the footprint of the previous residence to design a home that would generously accommodate an expanding family and group of friends for entertainment and weekend retreats.
Although this home would serve as the client’s main residence, they requested that we fashion a residence whose composition would be inspired by the other local seasonal homes, and appear as though it had been constructed at least a century prior. As such, we chose a mix of traditional architectural elements, incorporating them in a somewhat utilitarian composition, all of which would then be accented by a clean and crisp nautical decor.
