MIDWEST LAKE HOUSE
With this project, we aimed to design a lake residence that would be reflective of the client’s lifelong passion for the iconic sport of rowing. Having spent much of their time in and around the archetypal crew clubs of the East Coast, the client expressed a fond appreciation for the classic American boathouse. We partnered with them in fashioning a home that could serve as a tribute to that aesthetic.
A historical clapboard exterior with wood trim is accented by certain components that are clad in cedar shingle in order to differentiate the form, and to create a specific focal point for the residence. Additionally, the exposed foundations serve as a throwback to many of the old, historic utility buildings found within the area, made solely of local sand, cement and split fieldstone.
